Standards for friction stir welding joints
To ensure that FSW joints fulfill the same inspection and quality standards on a global level, ISO (International Organization for Standardization) standardized the process in 2011 (DIN EN ISO 25239, part 1-5).
The owner and CEO of RSS Schilling GmbH, Christoph Schilling, contributed significantly to this standard. Nowadays, we use this standard as our guide when completing welding work.
The standard refers to applications for aluminum alloy welding workpieces, the most common application, and includes:
Part 1: Vocabulary
Part 2: Design of weld joints
Part 3: Qualification of welding operators
Part 4: Specification and qualification of welding procedures
Part 5: Quality and inspection requirements
